What To Expect From Counselling
Initial free 20 minute telephone call
Once we receive your contact, one of our counsellors will be in touch within 1-2 working days. You will receive an initial text or email, and we work to your preference to arrange a time for an introductory telephone call. During the introductory telephone call, which usually lasts around 20 minutes, our counsellors will introduce themselves and our services. They will want to gain an understanding of what you might be looking for from counselling, and they will ask you some questions about yourself. You will have the opportunity to provide any information you wish to share and ask any questions you might have. There is no cost involved.
Weekly or Fortnightly Sessions
Should you decide to engage in counselling, sessions usually take place weekly, with each session lasting around 50 minutes. Weekly sessions allow you to build a strong relationship with your counsellor while having time between sessions to process. Fortnightly counselling may be considered following a conversation with your counsellor.
Therapy can be short or long-term, and each counsellor will review things regularly with you to ensure you are getting the most out of the process.
Counselling is a collaborative process that aims to empower you, improve your mental health, and enhance your overall well-being. Counselling can be a transformative experience, and while each person's journey is unique, there are some common aspects you can expect when working with a 2Rivers Counsellor:
-
A non-judgemental therapeutic relationship built on trust, compassion and empathy.
-
A neutral, safe space in which to talk and explore your feelings.
-
Self-exploration by investigating your thoughts, feelings and behaviours helps you understand, manage and express yourself more effectively.
-
A focus on building your coping strategies and problem-solving abilities.
-
Personal growth is achieved through identifying negative behaviours, making positive changes, and developing the communication skills needed for healthy relationships.
-
Regular feedback and reviews.
-
Professionalism and confidentiality (within agreed boundaries)
-
A managed therapeutic ending to the counselling relationship.
